NVS Mid-Month Challenge 7 – My AFF Origin Story

I’m not easily shocked. Or perhaps I should say, I’m not easily shocked NOW, after being on this site for 17+ years. But I guess at some point I was far less jaded.

I spent 2½ years traveling to the same town every other week for work. In that time I hooked up with a series of ladies that I’d FINALLY found the old-fashioned way (in a bar). When my regional responsibilities changed again, I decided to hopefully speed up the process of finding a fun female companion to hang around with by using on-line dating.

I was on a first date with a lady I’d met via the personals on the Big Smiley Yellow. I don’t even recall what she said exactly, something about liking to have bruises after a date I think. I guess my face showed a reaction, for she quickly followed up with “OH SHIT! I forgot which site I met you on”. Being new to the on-line dating world I pressed her for details. She told me about AFF’s sister site for those with ALTernate inclinations.

We really had no chemistry so that first date was also our last. I did find a WONDERFUL match via the Big Smiley Yellow’s personals though. 😁 But that ended all to abruptly when I was reassigned to another area after only 6 months.

The Big Smiley Yellow’s membership roster there was quite low. Recalling what the one lady had said I joined ALT, as a non-paying member if I recall correctly. That site was OK, but membership local to me, or to where I traveled, was fairly thin. But via ALT I became aware of AFF, where it seemed everyone the least bit adventurous had an account.
